A Keinton Musician Can...

Curriculum Intent:
"Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without." – Confucius
At Keinton Mandeville Primary School, we believe that music is a universal language that sparks imagination and can become a lifelong passion. Our aim is for every child to gain a deep understanding of what music is through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, and composing.
We love to sing! Singing is at the heart of our music curriculum, helping children develop confidence, creativity, and a sense of achievement. We strive to engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, enabling them to express themselves and appreciate the joy music brings.
Children experience music from a wide range of historical periods, styles, traditions and genres, ensuring they develop cultural awareness and a broad musical vocabulary. We are committed to helping children understand the value and importance of music in their own lives, in the lives of others, and in the wider community.
Our curriculum is built around three core concepts:
- Appreciation – developing an understanding and enjoyment of music from different cultures, genres, and time periods.
- Composition – creating and experimenting with sounds, melodies, and rhythms to express ideas and emotions.
- Performance – building confidence and skill through singing and playing instruments, both individually and as part of a group.
Every child has access to music and is encouraged to participate fully. Through high-quality teaching and enriching opportunities, we aim to provide children with the skills and confidence to progress to the next level of their creative excellence.
