Curriculum Intent
Keinton Mandeville Primary School intends to offer a relevant, broad, vibrant and ambitious Science curriculum that will inspire and excite our pupils using a wide variety of topics.
Our aim is to increase our pupils’ knowledge and understanding of our world, and to develop skills associated with Science as a process of enquiry. These skills are embedded in each topic studied. These are revisited and developed throughout the children’s time at school. Topics, such as Animals including humans, are taught throughout Key Stage One and Key Stage Two. This allows children to build upon their prior knowledge and increases their enthusiasm for the topics whilst embedding this procedural knowledge into the long-term memory.
At Keinton Mandeville Primary school, all children are encouraged to develop and use a range of skills including observation, planning and investigation, as well as being encouraged to question the world around them and become independent learners in exploring possible answers. Also, specialist vocabulary for topics is planned and taught progressively; effective questioning and explanation to communicate ideas is encouraged and modelled by staff.
