Personal, Social and Health Education

Our PSHE Curriculum Intent
At Keinton Mandeville Primary School, we believe that Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) is at the heart of helping our children grow into confident, healthy, and responsible individuals. Through our PSHE curriculum, we aim to give every child the knowledge, skills, and understanding they need to thrive in today’s world and prepare for the opportunities and challenges of the future.
We follow the KAPOW Primary PSHE scheme, which provides a clear, progressive approach to teaching PSHE. This ensures that children learn about important topics such as physical and mental health, relationships, safety, and citizenship in an age-appropriate and engaging way. Our lessons encourage discussion, reflection, and practical strategies so that children feel empowered to make positive choices in their lives.
Our intent is to:
- Promote wellbeing and resilience so children can manage change and challenges confidently.
- Develop respect and empathy for themselves and others, fostering a caring and inclusive school community.
- Equip children with life skills to stay safe, healthy, and informed in a rapidly changing world.
- Prepare children for life beyond school, helping them understand their rights, responsibilities, and the importance of contributing positively to society.
We want every child to leave our school with a strong sense of self-belief, independence, and compassion—ready to flourish both personally and socially.
We focus on four core concepts throughout school:
1. Family and Relationships,
2. Health and Well-being
3. Safety and the Changing Body
4. Citizenship
PSHE at our school is closely linked to our Core Values:
- Self-belief and Independence are nurtured through lessons that build confidence and decision-making skills.
- Respect and Compassion underpin discussions about relationships and diversity.
- Enthusiasm, Creativity, and Energy shine through in interactive activities that encourage children to express themselves and think critically.
- Determination is fostered as children learn strategies to overcome challenges and set personal goals.
We want every child to leave our school with a strong sense of self-belief, independence, and compassion—ready to flourish both personally and socially.
